optical ceramics

Transparent glassy and or crystalline structured materials engineered from inorganic, non-metallic materials via various methods that include heat or specific chemical reactions. Optical ceramics have been found useful in the areas of thin films, coatings and fibers and have also shown to be an advantageous substitute to common optical materials (such as glass) that are traditionally used for applications such as laser windows, and lightweight armor.
